The National Customs Service of Ecuador (SENAE) announced on Friday, October 23, actions to free up storage space through the disposal of retained goods, some for over fifteen years. The initiative is part of the reforms to the Organic Code of Production, Trade, and Investments (COPCI), aimed at optimizing customs management.
The regulations establish deadlines for owners to claim their goods before their final disposal. Goods in good condition may be awarded free of charge to public institutions and vulnerable sectors, while unsuitable products will be destroyed in accordance with the law.
These measures seek to improve the use of customs facilities, reduce the accumulation of goods, and streamline foreign trade procedures. This contributes to strengthening the country's operational efficiency and logistics management.
