U.S. Customs Service to Open New Refrigerated Cargo Inspection Center at Port of Savannah

Starting July 1, 2026, U.S. Customs will operate a new 4,000-square-foot refrigerated cargo inspection center at the Port of Savannah. Inspections will be conducted in a temperature-controlled environment, without interrupting the cold chain. The $49.25 million project relocated operations from a 130,000-square-foot facility to a 300,000-square-foot building. Refrigerated cargo imports have increased by 10.5 percent so far in the fiscal year (from July 1, 2025, to May 31, 2026), reaching 43,540 twenty-foot equivalent container units.
