FMC Hits Maersk With $1.9 Million Penalty Over Detention Billing
The U.S. Federal Maritime Commission secured a $1.9 million civil penalty settlement from A.P. Moller – Maersk over improper detention billing practices. Maersk assessed detention charges against parties that had not agreed to the carrier's service contracts or tariffs, violating the Shipping Act. The company agreed to end the practice, amend its U.S. tariff rules, and provide refunds to impacted third parties.
