A cargo vessel recently unloaded 176,000 metric tons of bauxite from Guinea at Yantai Port of Shandong Port Group (SPG) before being loaded with 27,800 tons of machinery, vehicles and engineering materials for its return voyage to Africa.
The operation brought Yantai Port's annual break-bulk cargo volume on liner services to more than eight million tons, a record high since the service was launch in 2015 and a year-on-year increase of 93 percent. The achievement further strengthens the port's role in facilitating China-Africa trade and economic cooperation.
Driven by the China-Africa comprehensive strategic partnership and high-quality Belt and Road Initiative, China-Africa economic and trade cooperation has witnessed a remarkable increase in bilateral trade volume. This has provided robust cargo volume for the port to expand trade exchanges with the African market.
As a break-bulk base of SPG and a break-bulk logistics hub for northern China, Yantai Port has continued to expand its global break-bulk shipping network and improve its connectivity between China and international markets.
In 2026, the port has added five break-bulk liner routes linking Yantai to Algeria, Senegal, Namibia, Djibouti and Romania, bringing the total number to 37. In particular, Yantai Port has operated over 30 Africa-bound voyages per month on average, covering more than 20 African countries and regions including Guinea, Tanzania and Nigeria. It ranks among China's leading ports in liner frequency, helping to deepen China-Africa economic and trade cooperation.
During vessel operations, the port has collaborated closely with related institutions including Yantai Customs, Yantai MSA, Yantai Entry-Exit Border Inspection Station and Yantai Port Pilot Station to ensure the efficient vessel berthing, cargo loading and departure procedures. This aims to reduce the duration of in-port operations, winning high recognition form domestic and overseas customers for its efficiency.
