U.S. and China Agree: No Shipping Tolls in Strait of Hormuz
Senior U.S. and Chinese officials have agreed that no country can charge shipping tolls in the Strait of Hormuz, according to the State Department on May 12. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio discussed the issue in an April phone call. The agreement signals common ground between the two nations on pressuring Iran to relinquish control of the vital waterway, which before the war handled one-fifth of the world's oil and gas supply.
