The inland motor freighter Terra 2 has freed itself after running aground in Düsseldorf harbour, Germany. No pollution or damage to the vessel was reported.

The vessel ran aground while leaving Dock B at the Port of Düsseldorf, Germany, on 28 September, shortly after being loaded with 168 Mercedes vans bound for Antwerp. Following this, the freighter made several attempts to free itself but was unsuccessful. The incident did not affect shipping traffic or port operations.
According to water police, a tug could not be used because the low water level posed a risk of damaging the vessel.
Terra 2 was eventually freed when a Dutch-flagged ship, which was leaving the harbour, nudged Terra 2 off the sandbank on 30 September. Some of the cargo was subsequently unloaded to reduce the Terra 2 draft.
After the freighter was freed, it did not continue its voyage pending instructions from the water police and harbour master on the permitted draft and cargo load. The vessel is expected to resume its voyage on 2 October after the water level rises.
Terra 2 is a freighter sailing under the flag of the Netherlands. The vessel measures 135 meters in length and 11 meters in width.
