Colombia and China are working on a new maritime connection that would link the port of Buenaventura with the Chancay mega-port in Peru, and from there to China. The project seeks to expand commercial connectivity alternatives between Colombia and Asian markets.
China's Ambassador to Colombia, Zhu Jingyang, highlighted that this connection would allow Colombia to take advantage of its strategic location between the Pacific and Atlantic oceans. The initiative adds to efforts to strengthen bilateral trade and facilitate access for Colombian products to the Chinese market.
Among the products Colombia seeks to promote to China are lemons, bananas, coffee, and flowers. The diplomat also pointed out opportunities for cooperation with Chinese companies in technology, smart logistics, artificial intelligence, and e-commerce.
