MSC and Hong Kong Spirit fined USD 1.75 million for illegal discharges

The U.S. justice system has ordered MSC Shipmanagement Limited and Hong Kong Spirit Shipping and Trading Limited to jointly pay a fine of USD 1.75 million and serve four years of probation for illegal discharges of oily waste into the ocean from the vessel MSC Samira III between June 2024 and January 2025. Both companies admitted to falsifying official records and circumventing marine environmental control systems.
