DHL Partners with Under-Development Vela Wind-Powered Cargo Ship
DHL Global Forwarding France partnered with Vela to offer transatlantic cargo transport on a wind-powered ship launching in early 2027. The vessel, under construction at Austal Philippines' Balamban, Cebu shipyard, will be 220 feet (67 meters) with capacity of 415 metric tons. The ship will be 100 percent wind-powered, achieving 99 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, with service between Normandy, Bordeaux and New Jersey requiring 10 to 13 days westbound and 8 to 10 days return.
