Maersk introduces Low Water Surcharge for inland barge transport in Netherlands

Maersk announced a Low Water Surcharge (LWS) for inland barge transportation in the Netherlands effective from 3 August 2026, triggered by declining water levels and drought conditions affecting the inland waterway network. The surcharge ranges from EUR 15 to EUR 150 depending on container size and terminal location, addressing additional operational costs caused by navigation restrictions and the temporary closure of the Twentekanaal.
