The fire ignited in the engine room of the vessel, prompting the crewmembers to issue the distress call. The crew members initiated firefighting efforts and requested assistance from nearby vessels. The fire was later brought under control with assistance from the vessel Fugro Aquarius.
Skandi Logger's operator, DOF, later confirmed that the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit in one of the vessel's switchboards, and the vessel is currently stable
The company said it is continuing to monitor the situation before authorizing the crew to resume operations and begin repair work.
