An analysis of Ecuadorian export performance during the first four months of 2026 reveals progress and challenges for the country's main export products. Sectors such as shrimp, bananas, plantains, and cocoa continue to play a relevant role in generating foreign exchange, in a context marked by changes in international markets, price variations, and new competitiveness conditions.
Shrimp exports recorded a 10% growth in value during the analyzed period, driven by a greater presence in the US market and by improvements in productivity and commercial management. In contrast, cocoa faced a reduction in its income due to the correction of international prices, while bananas and plantains maintained positive growth supported by increasing demand in various destinations.
The sustainability of export growth will depend on greater efficiency throughout the entire foreign trade chain, including production, transportation, logistics, and access to international markets. Likewise, strengthening maritime connectivity, port competitiveness, and associated logistics services will be crucial to consolidate Ecuador's position in the main trade corridors and expand export opportunities for agro-industrial products.
