Arriving from the Port of Buenaventura in Colombia, DP World San Antonio handled the inaugural call of the container ship CMA CGM Copper. The vessel was recently delivered by HD Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries shipyard in South Korea.
This container ship - sailing the world under the flag of Malta - is 335.23 meters long, 51 meters wide, has a draft of 10.6/15.5 meters, and a deadweight of 147,200 tons. This vessel has the capacity to move 13,136 TEU, with 2,100 connections for reefer containers.
The vessel, deployed on the ACSA1/WSA4/TLP2 service, uses methanol as fuel, allowing for more sustainable operations.
The CMA CGM Copper's sister ships include the CMA CGM Osmium (2026), CMA CGM Platinum (2025), CMA CGM Mercury (2025), and CMA CGM Helium (2025). Following these are the CMA CGM Cape Cod (2024), CMA CGM Buzios (2024), and CMA CGM Greenland (2022).
After its stop at the Port of San Antonio, the CMA CGM Copper will head to the Port of Chancay in Peru, and then proceed to DP World Posorja in Ecuador. After leaving South America, the vessel will embark on its journey to Asia, first calling at the docks of Yokohama, Japan, and finally Busan, South Korea, where it will arrive on September 16.
During its operation at the Port of San Antonio, DP World workers will move 1,200 export containers and 1,300 import containers.
The CMA CGM Copper is part of a new series of container ships named after elements from Mendeleev's table, also known as the periodic table, such as Cobalt, Platinum, Mercury, Helium, Krypton, Thorium, Argon, Silver, Osmium, and Gold.
It is worth noting that the ACSA1 service, which returned to Chile in 2025, includes calls at Busan, Xingang, Qingdao, Ningbo, Shanghai, Manzanillo, Lázaro Cárdenas, Buenaventura, San Antonio, Chancay, Callao, Posorja, Yokohama, and again Busan, using 13 vessels of between 13,000 and 15,000 TEU in a 91-day rotation.
