(3:44 p.m. EDT) — One of the cruise industry's most recognizable captains on social media, Captain Kate McCue, announced her decision to leave Four Seasons Yachts and take a break from sailing.
The announcement comes less than two years after McCue joined the brand for its inaugural season.
McCue announced the news in a video posted on Facebook, saying that her decision came after spending so much time away from home and reflecting on her three decades at sea, including serving as captain for the past 11 years.
"I've made the decision to resign from Four Seasons Yachts and begin a new chapter," said McCue, adding that her priorities now are spending time with her family as well as pursuing things that bring her joy.
Known as the "Most Followed Mariner on Social Media," McCue said she plans to help her dad check off items on his bucket list, including going on cruises together.
"I'm incredibly grateful, of course, to everyone who was on this journey and all the opportunities I've had. If you're wondering, I am keeping my captain's license active so sailing again is absolutely not off the table."
McCue was appointed captain of the 222-guest Four Seasons I on March 18, 2025. She led the vessel through its January 2026 and inaugural season.
Before joining Four Seasons Yachts, Captain Kate spent a decade with Celebrity Cruises, where she became the cruise industry's first American female captain in 2015.
