Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri has successfully completed the sea trials of Explora III, the latest vessel being constructed for Explora Journeys. The ship represents the third unit in a six-ship series being built for the luxury cruise brand, following the deliveries of Explora I in 2023 and Explora II in 2024.
Designed as a liquefied natural gas (LNG)-powered vessel, Explora III measures 248 metres in length with a beam of 32 metres. The ship will accommodate up to 900 guests in 461 oceanfront suites, penthouses and residences, all featuring private balconies and spread across 14 passenger decks.
Accommodation includes a spacious owner's residence offering approximately 280 square metres of combined indoor and terrace space. A number of suites have also been designed to provide enhanced accessibility for guests with reduced mobility.
Onboard facilities include multiple restaurants, bars and lounges, boutique retail outlets, a wellness complex featuring nine treatment rooms and a beauty salon, as well as indoor and outdoor spa and fitness areas covering more than 1,000 square metres. Guests will also have access to a selection of indoor and outdoor swimming pools.
According to Explora Journeys, Explora III will become the first LNG-powered vessel in the brand's fleet. In addition to operating on LNG, the ship has been designed with the capability to use bio-LNG and renewable synthetic LNG when those fuels become available at a larger commercial scale within the maritime sector.
