(9:25 a.m. EDT) — Holland America Line will offer year-round cruises for the 2027-2028 season, keeping a ship in the region through winter for the first time.
The move will see Nieuw Statendam remain in Europe year-round, offering additional sailings across the Mediterranean and Northern Europe beyond the traditional summer season. The deployment also includes two additional cruises on Zuiderdam.
Holland America's expanded deployment includes 12 new cruises aboard Nieuw Statendam, adding more than 70 extra port days compared to the previous year. According to the company, the itineraries are designed to give guests longer stays in port and access to destinations during the quieter period.
"Europe continues to be one of the most sought-after destinations for our guests, and as a cruise line with Dutch roots, it's a region we know incredibly well," said Paul Grigsby, vice president of deployment and itinerary planning for Holland America Line.
"Expanding to year-round Europe allows us to showcase a completely different side of the destination—one that is quieter, more immersive, and deeply seasonal. From the festive charm of Christmas markets to a cooler and more relaxed Mediterranean region, winter offers a more authentic way to experience Europe."
Highlighted itineraries include a 13-day Baltic and Scandinavian Christmas Markets voyage, sailing round-trip from Rotterdam or Dover, visiting Kiel, Tallinn, and Copenhagen, as well as a 15-day festive sailing featuring overnights in Hamburg and Copenhagen.
Winter and spring voyages include a 15-day Western Mediterranean itinerary, sailing from Rotterdam, with stops in Cadiz, Barcelona, Valencia, Cartagena (Murcia), Gibraltar, and Dover (London).
The cruise line will also offer seven-day cruises exploring the Greek Isles, sailing round-trip from Athens onboard Nieuw Statendam.
