Continuing with the "Live Your Port" campaign, Empresa Portuaria Iquique (EPI) welcomed a delegation of 50 10th and 11th-grade students from the Bicentenario Nirvana High School in the municipality of Alto Hospicio, specializing in Automotive Mechanics.
The main purpose of the day was to provide the young people with key background information and theoretical and practical knowledge regarding the value and strategic role that the Port of Iquique plays for the regional economy, as well as to delve into the predominant port logistics activity that defines the future of the Tarapacá Region.
To enrich the on-site experience, EPI coordinated a guided tour of the operational dependencies and facilities of the concessionaire Iquique Terminal Internacional (ITI), allowing the students to get a close look at cargo transfer dynamics, heavy tonnage machinery, and the safety standards that govern the maritime terminal.
The activity was jointly coordinated between the EPI team and the school's teaching staff, led by professionals Hamyn Quevedo, Nathalia Muñoz, and Joao Gómez, with the firm objective of bringing the port environment closer to the future generations of technicians in the region.
The Bicentenario Nirvana High School valued the opportunity, highlighting that "without a doubt, this visit represented an enriching experience that complements the technical-professional training of our students, allowing them to link classroom learning with real work contexts." The institution added that "we deeply appreciate the warm welcome provided and the commitment shown to the education of our young people."
With this new session, the "Live Your Port" program reaffirms its value as a platform for practical learning and community engagement, connecting the specialties of the technical high schools in the area with the operational needs and technological challenges of Tarapacá's main economic engine.
