The National Association of Shipping Agents of Chile (Asonave) announced that María Paz Rivera Fernández has been elected president of the Local Council of Puerto Montt, becoming the first woman to assume this position since the creation of these regional bodies a few years ago.
The professional, who works as a Boarding Agent for B&M Agencia Marítima in Puerto Montt, was unanimously elected by the companies associated with Asonave in the area to lead the Local Council.
"I feel very proud and grateful for the trust placed in me. It is also an important responsibility. My idea is to continue strengthening the dialogue among the different actors in the sector and create spaces that allow us to address the challenges we face as a port community," commented Rivera.
"The reception has been very good. All authorities have shown willingness to meet and discuss the issues that concern the sector. I believe there is an important opportunity to work together and seek solutions that improve processes and coordination among the different actors," she noted.
Challenges
Among the matters she hopes to promote during her tenure are the monitoring of the implementation of the Single Maritime Window (Vumar), as well as the creation of permanent working spaces among authorities, ports, and shipping agents to address operational issues that directly impact activity.
"The idea is that we can anticipate problems and not wait for them to happen. Often, small coordinations can make a big difference for those of us who work daily in the logistics chain," she added.
For the Executive Vice President of Asonave, Claudio Morales, the Local Councils are a very important part of the work carried out by the guild in the different regions of the country, because they allow for a direct relationship with the authorities and address the specific challenges of each port and each logistics community.
"From the Executive Vice Presidency, we are supporting María Paz's work, and we are convinced that she will do an excellent job. Her election represents a milestone for our guild, but above all, it reflects the professionalism, commitment, and leadership that many women contribute to maritime and port activity today," he stated.
