With a large turnout of families, artisanal fishermen, authorities, and local institutions, San Antonio celebrated a new version of the Saint Peter's Festival, an event supported by Port San Antonio that once again brought the community together around one of the most representative expressions of the commune's maritime identity.
The day began with the traditional mass in honor of Saint Peter, patron saint of fishermen, followed by the land and sea procession, one of the most significant moments of the celebration. In addition, various family and community activities were held, including a competition that awarded the best-decorated boat.
To close the festivities, the public enjoyed a performance by the renowned group Viking's 5, which gathered hundreds of attendees in a celebratory atmosphere, strengthening the cultural and community character of this traditional festival.
The Sustainability and Public Affairs Manager of Port San Antonio, Consuelo Cánaves, stated that "for Port San Antonio, it is very important to accompany this celebration, because the Saint Peter's Festival is part of the identity of our commune and reflects the history, faith, and effort of families linked to artisanal fishing. We are happy to support such a significant tradition for San Antonio, which brings the community together around the sea and recognizes the work of those who keep this activity alive."
Nelson Abarca, president of the Fishermen's Cooperative and the Puertecito Corporation, highlighted that "this year we achieved better coordination among institutions, the municipality, the Church, the San Pedro Union, the Puertecito Corporation, and security entities. We are very grateful for the support of Port San Antonio and the various institutions, because everything has turned out very beautifully for the fishermen, their families, and the community."
Meanwhile, Joel Sepúlveda, president of the Caleta Pacheco Altamirano Fishermen's Union, emphasized that "this festival is a tradition left to us by our ancestors and which we maintain with great faith. It is an honor to be part of its organization together with the Puertecito Corporation, because it reflects the unity of the fishing sector, and we also appreciate the support received from various entities, authorities, and Port San Antonio."
The Port Captain of San Antonio, Frigate Captain Roberto Ascencio, acknowledged that "for us, it is very important to share and integrate with the fishing community, with whom we are united by work in the maritime field. Our role is to ensure the safety of those who carry out this difficult work, which is why we warmly greet the men and women who go out to sea every day."
The celebration also had the support of Puerto Panul, a concessionaire of Port San Antonio, whose Sustainability Manager, Pedro Rojas, affirmed that "we are happy to participate and support this historic activity, which brings together many families and strengthens the bond with the community."
