DaChan Bay Terminals announced the full electrification of its truck fleet at the terminal following the delivery of 27 units with interchangeable batteries to replace the current LNG-powered units. This milestone makes it the first container terminal in China to operate a 100% electric vehicle fleet.
Compared to conventional diesel trucks, electric trucks offer significant advantages. They provide good performance with heavy loads, while considerably reducing operating noise, thereby improving the working environment at the terminal and the surrounding community.
Equipped with regenerative braking technology, the tractors can recover energy during braking to recharge their batteries, which increases overall energy efficiency. It is estimated that, once fully deployed, the electric fleet will reduce direct carbon emissions by approximately 5,000 tons annually, representing strong support for Shenzhen's decarbonization goals.
A ceremony was held to commemorate the occasion, attended by representatives from shareholder companies, internal transport contractors, and the battery swap infrastructure partner.
Brian Yeung, General Manager of DaChan Bay Terminals, stated that "we sincerely thank the Government and all our partners for their strong support and close collaboration, as well as our shareholders for their vision and long-term commitment. This milestone is a shared achievement that we are proud to celebrate together. Looking ahead, we will continue to expand the use of clean energy and move towards smarter, zero-carbon operations, contributing to the development of a world-class green port cluster in the Greater Bay Area."
After the ceremony, guests participated in a live demonstration of electric charging and battery swap operations, allowing them to experience firsthand the efficiency and convenience of green energy technologies.
To support the efficient operation of the electric fleet, DaChan Bay Terminals has completed the phased construction of electric charging and battery swap facilities. These facilities feature automated systems, intelligent management capabilities, and multiple safety protection mechanisms.
Each battery swap is completed in five minutes, ensuring uninterrupted 24-hour terminal operation.
