PD Ports has installed and commissioned a new 675 kW photovoltaic solar system on the roof of the largest warehouse at Tees bulk cargo dock, which features 2,000 solar panels and over 20 kilometers of cabling.
The new system will generate approximately 900,000 kWh of renewable electricity annually, enough to power 330 UK homes for a full year. It is expected to reduce Teesport's reliance on grid-supplied electricity by about 10% and cut Scope 2 carbon emissions by 118 tonnes of CO2e per year.
Project Engineer, Darren Coleman, stated that 'the successful execution of these projects demonstrates what can be achieved through strong leadership, effective stakeholder collaboration, and a shared focus on sustainability. We are proud to have implemented infrastructure improvements that provide long-term operational and environmental benefits, while supporting our broader sustainability ambitions.'
This is the latest in a series of projects at PD Ports' facilities in Teesside, including Teesport, Tees Commerce Park, Billingham, and Groveport. In total, the solar panels generate around 1,590,000 kWh per year, reducing our Scope 2 emissions by 208.22 tonnes of CO2e annually, with more projects underway.
