Chile and Bangladesh have agreed to initiate negotiations to achieve a Free Trade Agreement ( FTA) between both countries. The announcement is framed by the positive bilateral trade figures recorded in 2025, reaching USD 310.6 million.
The Chilean Ministry of Foreign Affairs website provided details of this milestone, stating that "Bangladesh represents a market of growing interest for our country due to its population, which reaches 177 million inhabitants, and its sustained economic growth, which makes it a destination that opens significant opportunities for the diversification and expansion of national exports."
Regarding commercial exchange during 2025, it was indicated that "Chilean exports amounted to USD 41.8 million, with an increase of 2.2%, while imports totaled USD 268.8 million, representing an increase of 19.3%."
Regarding this milestone, the Chilean Foreign Minister, Francisco Pérez Mackenna, assured that "the aim is to diversify markets, and in this context, we consider Bangladesh a partner with great potential. We hope to continue strengthening our economic and commercial relationship by identifying new opportunities for bilateral trade, investment, and economic cooperation for the benefit of both countries," concluded the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
It should be noted that this announcement took place in the context of the tour undertaken by the Chilean Ministry of Foreign Affairs through Asia. On the part of Bangladesh, the discussions were led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Asian country, Khalilur Rahman.
