A vessel reported hearing two explosions off the coast of Oman while transiting the Strait of Hormuz, according to the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO).
The British agency detailed that it received a delayed alert about the incident, which occurred about 9 nautical miles (16.7 kilometers) southeast of Kumzar, Oman. According to the report, it was the ship's captain himself who heard the detonations.
The organization confirmed that both the vessel and its crew are safe, with no environmental damage reported. In light of this, ships were advised to exercise extreme caution and report any suspicious activity in the area.
The incident occurs amidst growing tension around the Strait of Hormuz following recent military confrontations between the United States and Iran.
While Washington has demanded that Tehran guarantee free navigation through this strategic maritime route, Iran insists that traffic off its coasts must be subject to its supervision.
