Chilean President, José Antonio Kast, met with German Foreign Minister, Johann Wadephul, in Paraguay to address, among other topics, security related to the development of the bioceanic corridor to connect Brazil, Argentina, the Paraguayan nation, and Chile.
"The issue of port security is very important to us, and we all must collaborate to combat organized crime," the President stated after the meeting, within the framework of the XVII Mercosur Summit of Heads of State and Government in the Paraguayan city of Luque.
Kast indicated that this network of roads and infrastructure, which seeks to unite Brazil with the ports of northern Chile, through Paraguay and Argentina, "will allow greater speed and flow of goods to Asia, but also to Europe." This project aims to connect the Atlantic and Pacific oceans through a road network of approximately 2,400 kilometers.
The Head of State added that Chile, participating as an associated country in the Southern Common Market (Mercosur) meeting, is interested in Latin America "being a safe continent."
"Along with the issue of trade, security is fundamental for that trade to flow properly and not be captured by organized crime," Kast concluded.
The Chilean President's trip, his second since coming to power in Chile last March, includes a two-day tour of Uruguay starting on Wednesday, where he will be received by the Uruguayan President, Yamandú Orsi.
