Contecon Guayaquil plans to inaugurate its Special Economic Development Zone (ZEDE), adjacent to the Simón Bolívar Maritime Port, in December 2026. The first operator is expected to begin activities during the first quarter of 2027.
The first phase is between 60% and 65% complete and includes five hectares of warehouses, within a 15-hectare project. The ZEDE will allow for the storage, deconsolidation, and transformation of goods under a regime that facilitates customs management and optimizes logistics costs.
The project seeks to strengthen Guayaquil as a foreign trade hub and expand its capacity to handle international cargo flows. Contecon also highlights the need to deepen the navigation channel to maintain the port system's competitiveness against other terminals in the region.
