South Korea and Algeria Establish Direct Air Route for Cargo and Passengers

South Korea and Algeria have established a direct air route between the two countries for cargo and passenger transport. The news was confirmed by the South Korean Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport on July 20, 2026.

According to reports, "the nations had signed an air services agreement in January 2005, which came into effect in July 2009. However, the absence of negotiations on air traffic rights prevented the launch of direct flights."

"This agreement is important because it will help attract not only traffic originating from or destined for Algeria, but also transit passengers from various African countries and some Mediterranean countries traveling to South Korea," the ministry added in a press release.

Furthermore, it was highlighted that "despite the great growth potential of the African continent and the increasing demand for intercontinental travel, South Korea operates only one direct route with Africa, which connects Incheon with Addis Ababa, in Ethiopia."

Based on the provisions of the aforementioned pact, traffic rights are expected to be allocated to establish up to four weekly flights.
