Yangzijiang Shipbuilding (YZJ) delivered a new megamax-category containership powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG) to CMA CGM. The unit has the capacity to mobilize 24,212 TEU and is the second in a series of 10 vessels ordered in 2023.
In line with reports from Alphaliner, the new vessel to join the French shipping company's fleet is the CMA CGM Pantheon, which follows the launching in October 2025 of the CMA CGM Notre Dame from the facilities of Jiangsu Yangzi Xinfu Shipbuilding, a subsidiary of YZJ.
"Designed by the Maric institute, the ten vessels are part of the shipping company's Jacques Saadé class. Compared to Maric's initial design of 23,112 TEU (Mark-I, 9 vessels) and the optimized design of 23,872 TEU (Mark-II, 4 vessels), the ten new vessels of the Mark-III series represent an additional evolutionary step with an improved cargo capacity of up to 24,212 TEU," the consultancy reported.
"The new class of CMA CGM vessels reaches 399.9 meters in length and 61.30 meters in beam (24 container rows), with a deadweight of 240,000 tons and a draft of 17 meters. The vessels are equipped with MAN B&W 10G95ME-C10-GI-EGRTC series main engines, capable of developing an approximate power of 60,800 kW," it added.
Unlike the 13 vessels of the Mark-I and Mark-II series, which are equipped with 2,200 reefer plugs, the ten Mark-III vessels - built by the YZJ shipyard - will have a smaller capacity for temperature-controlled cargo, offering 1,600 connections.
The CMA CGM Pantheon will join the Asia-Europe service called FAL1 (also known as NEU4) of OCEAN Alliance, a route that operates with a mixed fleet composed of megamax category containerships (between 21,000 and 24,000 TEU), in addition to ten vessels with a capacity exceeding 17,000 TEU.
