As part of the permanent preventive work promoted by Port Antofagasta, a multiple emergency exercise was carried out at its facilities, organized and executed jointly by the port entity, the Port Authority, the concessionaire Antofagasta International Terminal (ATI), the local Fire Department, and other stakeholders. The activity allowed for the evaluation of protocols, resources, and response capabilities for various contingencies within the port area.
"On this occasion, an oil spill from a vessel docked at Berth 5 was simulated, with the deployment of containment barriers and a subsequent recovery phase. Likewise, the rescue of an injured person from inside a warehouse was carried out using a special cage, in addition to the control and extinction of a fire in an electrical substation of the Multi-operator Terminal," explained Diego Aguilera Modrow, Port Captain of Antofagasta.
The exercise allowed for on-site testing of team coordination and the coordinated application of established procedures, ensuring continuity in a work method based on collaboration among institutions linked to port and maritime activity.
"These instances are fundamental for maintaining a permanent response capacity, identifying opportunities for improvement, and reinforcing preventive management aimed at protecting people, safeguarding the environment, and contributing to the safety and continuity of port operations," indicated Port Antofagasta.
