HJSC Delivers 7,900 TEU Agate Containership for ZIM

HJ Shipbuilding Industry & Construction (HJSC) delivered the conventionally propelled 7,900 TEU containership Agate. This is the first unit in a series of four sister ships that will be operated by the Israeli shipping company ZIM.

"The HJSC shipyard delivered the conventionally propelled 7,900 TEU containership Agate to George Economou's TMS group. The new vessel is the first in a series of four sister ships that the South Korean shipyard will build for the Greek non-operating shipowner," Alphaliner reported.

"However, the vessel is not the first unit of this category. The first vessel built under this HJSC's own design (formerly known as Hanjin) was the Navios Cyan, belonging to Navios Maritime Partners," it added.

"Both non-operating shipowners ordered four sister ships of this model. Navios' vessels are destined to operate with Ocean Network Express (two units) and with PIL (two units), while TMS's four vessels were fully chartered by ZIM," the consultant complemented.

In line with Alphaliner's statement, the TMS group ordered its vessels at the end of 2024 at an approximate price of 108 million dollars for each of the new constructions.

The Agate is 272 meters long and 42.8 meters wide (17 rows of containers), with a deadweight close to 85,000 tons and a draft of 14.5 meters.

The vessel is equipped with a MAN B&W 7G80ME-C10-LPSCR series main engine capable of developing a power of about 33,000 kW.
