Cape XL, while departing Singapore's eastern bunker anchorage after bunkering, was joining the eastbound traffic lane when it struck the port side of Huge Kumano, which was transiting the Singapore Strait on a voyage from Brazil to Singapore.
The impact caused structural contact damage, with the bow section of Cape XL embedded into the port-side structure of Huge Kumano. Both the vessels were reported temporarily not under command following the collision. Later, both vessels AIS signal showed stopped or drifting in the Singapore Anchorage. The cause of the collision is yet not known.
As of 21 May, the vessels reached their respective destinations, with Cape XL arriving at Batu Ampar Anchorage, Indonesia, and Huge Kumano arriving in Singapore.
