A CMA CGM container ship, built in 2022, successfully exited the Strait of Hormuz on the morning of Sunday, June 28, the company reported. CMA CGM is currently consolidated as the world's third-largest shipping company in container maritime transport.
In detail, the multinational confirmed that the CMA CGM Galapagos, sailing under the French flag, completed its transit through the strait without incident.
The crossing occurred in an atmosphere of tension, as days earlier, Evergreen's Ever Lovely was hit by an Iranian projectile, an incident that subsequently led to a second attack, this time against the Kiku oil tanker.
"This crossing marks an important milestone in a regional context that remains complex and demands constant vigilance," CMA CGM highlighted in a statement, although it declined to offer further details on the exact circumstances under which the vessel exited the strait.
Furthermore, the shipping company detailed that it still has 10 vessels delayed in the Persian Gulf, which have remained in the area since the start of the armed conflict on February 28.
Before the attack on the Ever Lovely, the shipping company Maersk reported that two of its vessels, the Maersk Baltimore and a time-chartered vessel, successfully crossed the strategic Strait of Hormuz and safely exited the Persian Gulf area.
For its part, Hapag-Lloyd reported having put all its vessels that were held in the Persian Gulf into operation, a company spokesperson informed in response to a Reuters inquiry.
It is worth mentioning that after the attack on the Ever Lovely, Iran reaffirmed its right to control navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and warned Gulf States not to align with the United States.
In retaliation, the United States Central Command (Centcom) reported that it carried out a series of bombings against Iranian positions on Friday, June 26, due to the aggression perpetrated against the Evergreen vessel.
