A fire broke out in the engine room of the reefer vessel Dole Colombia carrying bananas while berthed at the Port of Wilmington, US, on 10 August. All the crew were safe with no injuries reported.

Smoke was seen coming from the Dole Colombia's stacks, while the captain of the reefer reported that a generator in the engine room had caught fire, prompting immediate response from the Wilmington Fire Department.
Additional fire units from the nearby fire department arrived to assist in extinguishing the fire. However, the captain later confirmed that the engine room had been sealed and the fixed firefighting system discharged into the compartment to contain the blaze.
The blaze was subsequently brought under control, and all the crewmembers were reported safe. Firefighters monitored temperatures around the engine room and remained on standby with hoses to prevent the fire from spreading.
Dole Colombia is a 1999-built vessel sailing under the flag of the Bahamas. The vessel measures 204.9 meters in length and 32.24 meters in width.
