CMA CGM has christened its newest LNG-powered vessel, the "CMA CGM Notre Dame", at a ceremony held in Le Havre. The vessel is the largest container ship in the French registry and is the first in a series of 10 vessels that will all be LNG-powered and flagged in France.
CMA CGM has confirmed that the "Notre Dame", along with the nine additional vessels due by 2028, will be registered in France. The company has also announced plans to recruit 135 seafarers for these vessels.
The "Notre Dame" measures 399 metres in length, has a beam of 61.3 metres, and offers a capacity of 24,000 TEUs. The vessel is equipped with real-time voyage optimization and AI systems to enhance energy efficiency and environmental performance. It is powered by LNG and will operate on the France–Asia route.
CMA CGM has set a target of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. Vessels such as the "Notre Dame" are inherently more efficient due to their size and benefit from significantly lower emissions of sulphur oxides, nitrogen oxides, and CO₂ thanks to their LNG propulsion.
