The South Korean private equity firm Hahn & Co. announced a significant reorganization of its logistics assets, which will transform its subsidiary SK Shipping into the leading liquefied natural gas (LNG) shipping company in Asia and the third largest entity in this segment globally.
Through this asset exchange agreement, SK Shipping will incorporate 16 LNG carriers into its fleet and integrate their corresponding long-term contracts, sourced from H-Line Shipping.
In return, SK Shipping will transfer 12 oil tankers to H-Line Shipping, along with their existing commercial agreements and monetary compensation close to USD 300 million.
Following the completion of the transfer, SK Shipping will operate a total of 32 LNG vessels and 14 liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) carriers. As part of this strategic transformation, the management firm Hahn & Co. plans to rebrand the company under the new corporate name of K-LNG, while H-Line Shipping will convert its business model to specialize exclusively in the oceanic transport of dry bulk and oil cargoes.
The reconfiguration of the fleet aims to maximize economies of scale and enhance the operational efficiencies of both companies. This corporate maneuver favorably positions K-LNG to capitalize on the constant increase in international demand for clean energy.
It is worth noting that the private equity firm Hahn & Co. holds majority control of both entities, having acquired its decisive stake in SK Shipping in 2018 and established H-Line Shipping in 2014 after acquiring the long-term bulk carrier division of the defunct Hanjin Shipping.
