The 148-meter-long tanker with 5,000 tonnes of petroleum products on board lost propulsion while transiting southeast of the Islet of Psathoura. The Greek maritime authority responded and deployed a rescue tug to the Aegean Sea while the operation was monitored by Greece's Unified Search and Rescue Coordination Center (EKSED).
The tanker was subsequently towed by the tug Aegean Sea and brought to Canakkale Anchorage, Turkey.
Following the incident, the Port Authority of Alonissos imposed administrative sanctions on the vessel's captain for failing to promptly notify the competent port authority of the mechanical failure, as required under Greek maritime regulations.
