The Santa Rosa Bridge project has reached a new milestone with the start of deep foundation work that will support the main structure of the bridge, a key stage for the construction of the future definitive access road to the new Jorge Chávez International Airport.
The Minister of Transport and Communications, Aldo Prieto Barrera, supervised the start of drilling for the installation of the piles and highlighted that this project represents one of the most important investments to strengthen the country's road infrastructure, by improving connectivity between Lima and Callao and facilitating safe and efficient access to Peru's main air terminal.
The project includes the construction of 32 reinforced concrete piles, up to 24 meters deep, which will serve as the base for the bridge abutments, guaranteeing its stability and resistance. A BAUER BG 28 hydraulic drilling rig, high-tech equipment designed to execute works of great complexity and technical demand, is being used for these tasks.
During the supervision, the head of the MTC indicated that "such a large investment as was made with the new airport will finally culminate with its definitive accesses as it should and as we deserve." He also reaffirmed the sector's commitment to the timely execution of an infrastructure that will transform mobility in the country's main port and improve the experience of millions of passengers who will use the new airport.
The work is being carried out in parallel with the diversion plan implemented on Morales Duárez Avenue, which allows vehicular and pedestrian traffic to be maintained safely while the works continue.
The Santa Rosa Bridge is part of a modern road interchange that also includes a 65-meter span bridge, new access roads, an overpass on Morales Duárez Avenue, river defense works on the Rímac River, and urban landscaping spaces. This set of interventions will optimize vehicular flow to the airport, decongest access roads to Callao, and strengthen integration with the main routes of Metropolitan Lima.
The project is executed by Provías Nacional, under a Government-to-Government modality with France through PMO Vías, a scheme that incorporates high international standards for the management and execution of public infrastructure.
With the progress of the foundation work, the Santa Rosa Bridge continues to consolidate itself as a strategic project for the country's development. In addition to becoming the definitive access to the new Jorge Chávez International Airport, it will improve connectivity between Lima and Callao, streamline the transport of passengers and goods, strengthen national logistical competitiveness, and offer modern, safe, and efficient infrastructure to serve millions of Peruvians.
