With the aim of maintaining the national sanitary status and ensuring the presence of Argentine poultry farming in international markets, the National Agri-Food Health and Quality Service (SENASA) led an inter-institutional workshop in Crespo, Entre Ríos, under the motto “Biosecurity as a shared responsibility”.
The meeting brought together more than fifty representatives from the private sector of the poultry industry, the Secretariat of Environment, the College of Veterinary Doctors, and the SENASA Regional Center, all from Entre Ríos, agreeing on a common agenda for the unification of technical, sanitary, and administrative criteria.
During the presentations, the current regulatory frameworks were reviewed, with special reference to SENASA Resolution N.° 1699/2019 on sanitary authorization for commercial farms and N.° 43/2026 which establishes the accreditation system for private veterinarians and technicians. In this context, a precise delimitation of responsibilities within the production chain was established, regarding compliance with physical infrastructure and property conservation, as well as productive and sanitary guarantees.
Furthermore, the role that accredited private veterinarians must assume was recalled: to ensure compliance with sanitary standards, prepare management plans, train workers, and give immediate notice of any suspected mandatory notifiable disease within 24 hours. Regarding the environmental aspect, public institutions explained the work aimed at articulating provincial certifications with national sanitary requirements, simplifying procedures for producers.
Likewise, the workshop allowed for a review of essential operational biosecurity aspects that must be continuously maintained in each establishment. Among these priority actions, the maintenance of perimeter fencing, the review of bird netting, rigorous access control, mandatory vehicle disinfection, permanent environmental cleaning, and the safe management of mortality and guano were highlighted.
The meeting concluded with the signing of a memorandum of understanding by the attendees, who ratified their commitment to consolidate a work scheme structured around five fundamental axes: prevent, warn, notify, correct, and verify. This strategic alliance seeks to protect Entre Ríos poultry farming and guarantee its competitiveness in the most demanding international markets.
