One of the main focuses was the Member State Audit Scheme (IMSAS), established in 2016, through which the IMO verifies compliance and application of international instruments related to safety in waters. The national Maritime Authority has participated in this process since its early stages, when they were voluntary, starting in 2006. This experience allowed for the consolidation of technical capabilities for the implementation of international regulations and the preparation of evaluations.
The meeting gained special relevance in view of the second mandatory cycle of IMSAS, which will begin in July 2027. This new stage includes substantial modifications, among which is the incorporation of indicators aimed at identifying and prioritizing certain areas of the Maritime Administration that require greater attention and concentration of efforts.
The proposal is part of the Coast Guard's annual Educational Offer aimed at peer Maritime Authorities and seeks to promote the exchange of good practices and the development of common capabilities.
In this context, the Force's Secretariat for International Affairs convened officials who perform various roles related to the topic within the Institution, with the purpose of acquiring knowledge of this system, its periodicity, scope, and main aspects, as well as the responsibilities that fall upon the Coast Guard, considering that it assumes approximately 90% of the obligations corresponding to the Argentine Maritime Administration.
The closing was led by the Secretary for International Affairs, Senior Prefect Ricardo Antonio Romero, and the Director of the Superior School, Senior Prefect Andrés Watters, who presented certificates to the participants.
