Katoen Natie announced it will request authorities to declare port services related to containerized cargo at Terminal Cuenca del Plata (TCP) as essential.
The measure would respond to recurrent stoppages promoted by the TCP-Nelsury Union within the framework of their collective bargaining.
It is worth mentioning that the union recently lifted the indefinite strike initiated on Monday, September 7. "The TCP-Nelsury Union announced that today, starting at 3:00 PM, normal terminal operations will resume," the entity stated.
"TCP will proceed to call the necessary personnel to fully reestablish activities. Likewise, a tripartite meeting between the company, the union, and the Ministry of Labor and Social Security is scheduled for 1:30 PM," it added.
In this context, the Belgian multinational group highlighted that "the repeated stoppages and the insufficiency of the union guard provided during the last hours have severely affected operations, generating significant damages to TCP, its clients, port users, and the entire logistics chain."
"Given these antecedents, TCP has given instructions to formally request the competent authorities to declare the essentiality of port services related to containerized cargo. The adoption, timing, and scope of this measure will be exclusively at the discretion of said authorities, according to the evolution of the situation," it added.
"TCP will continue to analyze the corresponding administrative and legal measures to protect the continuity of services, determine responsibilities, and claim for damages caused," it concluded.
