Personnel from the Argentine Naval Prefecture seized over 400 kilograms of marijuana, valued at almost 1.7 billion pesos, during two operations carried out in the province of Misiones.
The first operation took place in the city of Puerto Iguazú, as a result of investigative tasks that provided information about a possible entry of narcotics from the Republic of Paraguay.
Based on the gathered data, Force personnel deployed a surveillance operation at a strategic point located at kilometer 1884 of the Paraná River, in an area known as "Paraje Bosetti".
In this context, the national Maritime Authority detected flashlight flashes on a path coming from the riverbank, so they immediately began a search of the area.
As a result, ten abandoned packages were found containing 279 bricks of marijuana, weighing over 200 kilograms and valued at more than 874 million pesos.
Furthermore, in the town of Candelaria, Prefecture personnel established observation posts and strategically distributed patrols near kilometers 1604 and 1605 of the Paraná River, using night vision optical devices, after obtaining information about a possible drug crossing.
In this context, after inspecting the sector, 14 abandoned packages were found, containing a total of 153 packages with marijuana flowers, some vacuum-sealed and others with the substance in bulk. The shipment weighed over 210 kilograms and was valued at more than 809 million pesos.
The Decentralized Prosecutor's Office of Puerto Iguazú, headed by Dr. Aníbal Martínez, and the Posadas Prosecutor's Unit, headed by Dr. Juan Andrés Stuber, intervened in the cases and ordered the seizure of the narcotics.
