The wide participation recorded was one of the main highlights of this initiative, which brought together representatives from five continents and generated a space for professional exchange of international scope. Participating countries included Uganda, Togo, the Philippines, Ivory Coast, Bahamas, Scotland, Nigeria, Guyana, Barbados, Indonesia, Senegal, Thailand, and Comoros, among others.
Throughout the two weeks of training, participants addressed the main aspects related to the implementation and application of the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code, as well as the procedures, responsibilities, and tools related to maritime security audit processes.
The proposal also promoted the exchange of knowledge, experiences, and best practices among professionals from different maritime administrations, favoring the analysis of common challenges and the strengthening of the necessary capacities for an adequate implementation of international standards in the field.
In this sense, the training acquired special relevance due to its international dimension and scope, by bringing together officials from different regions of the world and facilitating the construction of professional ties around a matter of strategic importance for the security of international maritime transport.
Maritime security is an essential component of international security. In this framework, the training of professionals with knowledge and tools to evaluate the effective application of the measures provided in the ISPS Code contributes to strengthening the capacities of States and consolidating common security standards for ships and port facilities.
This course is part of the six international training courses that the Prefectura Naval Argentina duly presented to the International Maritime Organization (IMO), with the purpose of sharing with officials and professionals from maritime administrations of different Member States the knowledge, capabilities, and experiences developed by the Institution.
The realization of this first edition thus represents a concrete advance in the internationalization process of the institutional educational offer, projecting the capabilities of the Prefectura, beyond national borders and language barriers, and consolidating new spaces for cooperation and exchange with Maritime Authorities from different regions.
The initiative was carried out by specialized personnel from the Directorate of Judicial Police, Maritime and Port Protection, under the coordination of the Institution's Secretariat for International Affairs, and reaffirms the Prefectura Naval Argentina's commitment to putting its capabilities at the service of the international maritime community and contributing, through training and technical cooperation, to strengthening global maritime security and protection.
