Portos do Paraná hosted, this Thursday (5), an awareness and combat action against the sexual exploitation of children and adolescents, in support of Childhood Brasil. Held at the entrance of Palácio Dom Pedro II, the initiative aimed to disseminate information on the topic.

The mobilization was organized jointly by SEST SENAT, Cargill, Portos do Paraná and EPR Litoral Pioneiro, members of the Paranaguá Coalition, a municipal initiative that brings together companies and entities committed to combating the sexual exploitation of children and adolescents.

The activity started at 7 am, with in-person guidance and distribution of informative materials. According to Felipe Zacharias, specialist advisor to the Environmental Directorate of Portos do Paraná, the initiative seeks to expand the reach of awareness campaigns, which are normally aimed at truck drivers. The last one took place in May.

“Normally these joint actions are carried out in the Screening Yard, to bring information to drivers. But it is also important to bring this information to the port community and workers in the general context,” he explained.

The choice of location took into account the intense flow of people. This week's mobilization was aimed at the port community, including self-employed and casual workers, port workers and professionals from service providers.

For Lidiane Costa, SEST SENAT psychologist, the port region is a strategic space to provide guidance and encourage the identification of situations of violence.

“Today we are approaching all workers, carrying out this important awareness. It is extremely important to explain that the sexual exploitation of a child is a crime,” she highlighted.

Cargill administrative assistant, Suelen Ferreira da Silva, highlighted that one of the priorities of the mobilization, carried out within the scope of the Na Mão Certa Program, is to disseminate reporting channels and encourage participants to share information with other people.

“We mobilized today to be multiplying agents, bringing information to workers to be agents of change in the lives of children and adolescents who suffer from abuse and exploitation. When witnessing cases, people often do not know where to report, so we present these channels and explain that it is completely anonymous, that the competent bodies will investigate and take measures to intervene,” she informed.

Among the people approached was Beatriz Leares Ricardo, a service provider. Sensitive to the topic, she highlighted the importance of everyone's participation in identifying and reporting suspicious situations.

“Information saves lives. We see things happening and we cannot close our eyes: we must report. A child, regardless of age, is a child, who needs to be cared for and loved, and cannot suffer,” she stated.

Port guard Gilson Nascimento da Silva, who has worked at Portos do Paraná for almost 39 years, also positively evaluated the initiative. For him, the large flow of people makes the port an important environment for awareness actions.

“It is very important because it is an area where the flow of people is very large. And when there is an activity like this, aimed at society, it is very good, because people stop to listen and better understand the situation,” he reinforced.

Childhood Brasil

Childhood Brasil – For the Protection of Childhood is a non-profit organization that is part of the World Childhood Foundation, with offices in Sweden, Germany and the United States. Founded in 1999, the institution works to prevent and combat the abuse and sexual exploitation of children and adolescents in Brazil, stimulating and developing solutions for child protection.

Recently, Portos do Paraná renewed its partnership with the organization to strengthen the protection of children and adolescents in all its dimensions.

How to report

According to the 2025 Atlas of Violence, released by the Institute of Applied Economic Research (Ipea) and the Brazilian Forum for Public Security, more than 115,000 children and adolescents are victims, per year, of some type of sexual, physical or psychological violence.

During the event, participants received guidance on the main reporting channels:

- Dial 100: to report suspicions or situations of violation of children's and adolescents' rights. The call is free and the report can be anonymous.

- 190 (Military Police) and 191 (Federal Highway Police): for witnessed or observed situations of violence that require immediate police assistance both in urban areas and on highways.

- SaferNet: to report content and situations of violence against children and adolescents on the internet, through the website denuncie.org.br.
