The ALTP terminal, a consortium formed by Louis Dreyfus Company and Amaggi, responsible for PAR 25, is the first to connect to the Moegão complex at the Port of Paranaguá. The operation was carried out on Sunday morning (11) and required the blocking of Avenida Portuária, as well as the involvement of dozens of professionals.
Moegão is the largest public project in the port sector under construction in Brazil and the largest in Paraná, with an investment of approximately R$ 700 million. The project brings together unprecedented characteristics in railway and port engineering by centralizing, in a single location, the reception of bulk agricultural products transported by trains for subsequent shipment on vessels.
"We are revolutionizing the way we receive cargo that will be exported worldwide. Moegão, combined with the new T-shaped Pier and the increase in operational draft, which will allow the operation of even larger vessels, will considerably increase the competitiveness of our port," highlights Luiz Fernando Garcia, CEO of Portos do Paraná.
To erect the 55-meter long and approximately 35-ton metallic structure, it was necessary to use a super crane with the capacity to lift up to 600 tons to a maximum height of 48 meters. Dozens of professionals participated in the operation, which lasted about two hours. The fastening work took another four hours.
The structure is now connected to Moegão's central gallery, which extends for 1.7 kilometers and houses more than 4,000 meters of conveyor belts. The belts will be responsible for transporting products unloaded from wagons to the terminals.
By October 2027, the 11 terminals of the East Export Corridor of the Port of Paranaguá must integrate their structures into the system.
When it becomes operational, Moegão will increase the potential for receiving grains and bran by rail at the Port of Paranaguá, which will be able to handle up to 24 million tons per year. Currently, the capacity for receiving by rail is just over 5 million tons. The operational efficiency gain will be 63%.
The project was designed to meet the expansion of Ferroeste, which will have one of its branches starting from Mato Grosso do Sul, and the restructuring of Malha Sul.
The complex has three independent railway lines and will be able to receive up to 180 wagons at once, with the simultaneous emptying of three wagons on each line. The capacity will be 900 wagons unloaded every 24 hours. Currently, there are about 550 per day.
Currently, the reception of grains and bran by rail is not centralized. Wagons are directed to the terminals, which requires maneuvering compositions. This operation sometimes interrupts traffic on the streets of the port area for more than 40 minutes.
With the centralization of operations and without the need to divide compositions, the number of level crossings — points where tracks cross streets — will be reduced from 16 to five. As a result, traffic interruption will be limited to the time necessary for the train to pass, estimated, on average, between 10 and 15 minutes.
