The Ecuador National Police, through the National Anti-Drug Investigation Directorate, carried out operation "Fénix 0271," which resulted in the seizure of 2,565,000 doses of cocaine allegedly destined for the European continent. The action took place at the Port of Posorja.
At the scene, specialized units applied profiling techniques and operational analysis that allowed them to identify a tractor-trailer vehicle that raised alerts during controls. Upon physical inspection, agents found nine bundles containing 270 rectangular blocks of a whitish substance in the cabin.
Field tests confirmed that it was cocaine hydrochloride, with a total weight of 256 kilograms and 500 grams. According to police information, the drug was to be used under the "blind hook" contamination method in containers within the port facility, with the aim of sending it to Europe. During the operation, citizen Jacinto Herney M. L. was arrested and placed at the disposal of the competent authority to continue with the corresponding legal process.
In the operation, mobile terminals, satellite tracking devices, and energy storage equipment were also found, elements that will be incorporated into the investigation. According to the National Police, the seized drug would have reached a value of USD 583,537 in the Ecuadorian domestic market, while in Europe its price would have amounted to USD 11,991,375.
The institution highlighted that this operation reaffirms its commitment to the fight against organizations dedicated to illicit drug trafficking and to the protection of the country's port logistics chain, emphasizing the importance of maintaining permanent controls at the accesses and yards of maritime terminals to prevent these structures from being used by transnational criminal networks.
