Foreign trade specialist María Emilia Crespo warned about the risks posed by errors in tariff classification within import and export processes in Ecuador. In this context, she announced that Ecuador's first international tariff classification summit will be held on June 3rd and 4th in Guayaquil. The event will take place at the Sheraton Hotel and will bring together national and international specialists linked to foreign trade and customs management.
Confirmed speakers include technical experts and representatives from the customs sector of various countries in the region. Another prominent participant will be Fabián Villarroel, who will address topics related to tariff classification, customs valuation, and commercial exchange between Ecuador and Colombia. According to Crespo, inconsistencies in merchandise coding can lead to fines, additional costs, cargo retentions, and delays in logistics and port operations.
The realization of this international summit reflects the growing importance of technical training and correct document management for Ecuador's logistical and commercial competitiveness. Likewise, strengthening capabilities in tariff classification could contribute to optimizing dispatch times, reducing operational contingencies, and improving the efficiency of logistics chains linked to maritime trade and international merchandise transport.
