Agrifood International Congress is ready for its fifth edition. Tinglado 1 of the Moll de Costa at Port Tarragona will host this event on October 15 and 16, which has become one of the main meeting and debate forums for the agri-food system in Southern Europe. The congress will bring together experts from the logistics and agri-food world in Tarragona, as well as the main companies in the agri-food value chain, to analyze the sector's resilience in the face of new global scenarios marked by uncertainty and volatility. Registration to attend the congress can be formalized until Friday, October 9.
Over two days, Agrifood will offer talks and roundtables on various aspects such as new vectors of the agri-food system and the importance of transport and logistics in business decision-making in this sector. The congress has been organized into three thematic panels that will be distributed throughout the two days.
The first panel (Thursday, 15 – afternoon) will analyze the global and geopolitical context and how it impacts the agri-food sector on a global scale. To do this, it will feature Xavier Sala-i-Martin, Professor of Economics at Columbia University (USA). The renowned economist will deliver the inaugural conference of the congress, titled 'A World in Tension: Geopolitical Impacts on Agri-Food Markets'.
The second panel (Friday 16 – morning) will address the new vectors of the agri-food system. This panel will feature a conference by Ileana Axiotiades, Secretary General of COCERAL, the European association for trade in cereals, oilseeds, oils and fats, feed, and agricultural supplies. Axiotiades will speak about the effects of changes in European legislation on agri-food markets in the talk 'European Regulation as a Game Changer in Agri-Food Trade'.
This panel will be completed with a roundtable titled 'Food, Feed, Fuel: The Role of Agri-Food Raw Materials in the Energy Transition'. Participants will include José Ramon Freire, General Director of the Spanish Bioethanol Association and Secretary General of AECEC (Spanish Association of Cereal and Analogous Products Foreign Trade); Antonio José Vallespir, CEO of Vertex and President of the Spanish Bioethanol Association; and Joaquín Gaitán, Executive Manager of ADM Agro Ibérica.
The last panel of the congress (Friday 16 – morning) will focus on the transport and logistics of agri-food products. It will do so from two different perspectives. The roundtable 'Resilience, Costs and Real Decisions in a Disruptive Environment' will analyze how logistics has a direct impact on the commercial decisions of companies in the agri-food sector. Participants will include Jaume Arimany, Senior Commercial Manager of Proteins at Bunge; J.R. Albareda from the Raw Materials Purchasing Department of Vall Companys; and Josep Ribó, Production Director of Animal Feed at BonÀrea and Aitor Vieco, director of 'El Mercantil', a specialized logistics media outlet, who will act as moderator.
The last of the congress's roundtables will analyze the transport and logistics of agri-food products from a technical perspective. Under the title 'The New Bottlenecks of Agri-Food Products', Ramón García, Commercial Director of Ership; Javier Dolader, from Grupo Jorge; and Carles Segura, Head of the Operations Area of Port Tarragona will talk about the present and future challenges presented by the logistics of this sector. The table will be moderated by Santiago Bassols, director of BCL – Barcelona Catalunya Centre Logístic.
