The Alicante Port Authority today inaugurated the commemorative exhibitions for its 125th anniversary, an initiative that brings the history, heritage, and memory of an institution closely linked to the economic, social, and urban development of Alicante and its province closer to the public.
Under the title "When the sea becomes a port. The artistic memory of our shore", the exhibition offers a look at the past and present of the port through a selection of artistic works, documents, objects, and other elements of historical and cultural interest that are part of the Port Authority's collection.
The exhibition constitutes a visual chronicle of 125 years of port trajectory, from the constitution of the Port Works and Services Board to the present day, and allows the discovery of pieces and documents of special interest, some of them unpublished, that help to understand the evolution of the Port and its role in the transformation of Alicante.
The exhibition project is displayed in two port enclaves: Casa de la Concordia and Lonja del Pescado.
The exhibition's tour in the former is structured around different stages and perspectives of port history: "The Port of the Court", "The Port Works Board is born", "The Port Community", "The Port opens to the city", "The Port of the province" and "From the port we were to the port we want to be".
For its part, the exhibition at the old Lonja del Pescado includes antique pieces such as a diver's helmet, a ship's bell, or a logbook, as well as works by artists of the stature of Gastón Castelló, Pérez Gil, or Dolores Balsalobre.
With this initiative, the Port Authority wants to open its heritage to society and strengthen the link between the Port and the city, showing how port activity has been linked for more than a century to the productive sectors of the province, to the generation of economic activity and to the urban and social evolution of Alicante itself.
The 125th-anniversary program is completed with a series of lectures that will delve into different aspects of the history and evolution of the Port of Alicante.
The sessions will be held every Wednesday at 6:30 p.m., from October 28, 2026, to March 2027, and will feature the participation of personalities, institutions, and associations linked to the port and its history.
The celebration of the 125th anniversary of the constitution of the Port Works and Services Board, the predecessor of the current Alicante Port Authority, thus constitutes an opportunity to review 125 years of history and, at the same time, look to the future with the will to continue building the port that Alicante needs.
At the event, which was attended by a broad representation of the entire port community, the current president Luis Rodríguez was accompanied by 4 of his predecessors: Mario Flores, Miguel Campoy, José Joaquín Ripoll, and Juan Ferrer.
The presentation of the exhibitions concluded with a performance by the Coro Puerto de Alicante and the wish that Alicantinos and visitors enjoy the planned program.
