The reduction of emissions, energy efficiency, and the incorporation of new technologies were at the center of the debate of the II Rail-Port Conference and Technical Table, "Decarbonization: a challenge for the rail-port logistics sector", held in the Rectorate building of the University of Malaga.
The meeting, organized by Railway Innovation Hub, Fundación Málagaport, and the Association of Consignees and Port Companies of Malaga (ACEMAR), brought together institutional representatives, sector professionals, and technological experts to analyze the main challenges of the energy transition and explore innovative solutions applicable to railway, port, and logistics activities.
The inaugural table featured the participation of Juan Carlos Rubio Romero, Vice-Rector for Transfer, Entrepreneurship, and Business of the University of Malaga; Juan José Sibina Calderón, Manager of ACEMAR; Marta Montero Cabrera, General Director of Railway Innovation Hub; and José Miguel Moyano Retamero, Director of the Autoridad Portuaria de Málaga. Their interventions led to a program focused on technological innovation and collaboration among the different agents of the rail-port ecosystem.
The first presentation, "Technologies for the decarbonization of the rail-port ecosystem", was given by Pedro Nadal Polo, Project Manager of the Projects and Singular Proposals Unit of Eurecat. Next, Miguel Ángel Antúnez Flores, Head of the Port Operations and Environmental Protection Division of the Autoridad Portuaria de Málaga, provided the perspective of the port sector on the challenges of decarbonization.
One of the main blocks of the meeting was the technical table "From challenge to the application of new solutions for the decarbonization of rail-port activity", moderated by Juan José Sibina Calderón. Pedro Nadal Polo (Eurecat), Luis Policarpo Furtado (Instagrid), Daniel Aguilera Córdoba (SISTEM), and Sofía Núñez Mier (Base Sistemas y Suministros) participated in it, sharing different perspectives on the incorporation of technologies and energy solutions aimed at improving the sustainability and efficiency of rail-port operations.
This second edition continues the conference held in February 2026 on artificial intelligence applied to the rail-port logistics field and is part of the collaboration agreement signed in 2025 by the three organizing entities to promote innovation, technological development, and synergies between the railway and maritime-port sectors.
With this initiative, the promoting entities continue to foster meeting spaces and knowledge transfer that favor collaboration among companies, institutions, and technology centers, contributing to the development of a more sustainable and competitive rail-port logistics.
The conference had the collaboration of the Universidad de Málaga, the Autoridad Portuaria de Málaga, Eurecat, SISTEM, and Base Sistemas, the sponsorship of Instagrid, and the participation of Vía Libre as a media partner.
