Puertos del Estado Gathers 28 Port Authorities to Enhance Competitiveness

The President of the Port Authority of Almería (APA), Rosario Soto, along with the Director of the APA, Mª Ángeles Guarnido, are attending the annual work and coordination meeting of the top officials of the general interest port system, organized by Puertos del Estado. The meeting, which this year is taking place at the Port Authority of Avilés and was inaugurated by the Secretary of State for Transport and Sustainable Mobility, José Antonio Santano, addresses issues aimed at strengthening the competitiveness of the state-owned port system, comprising 28 port authorities that manage 46 ports.

During the meeting, a commitment to decarbonization and digitalization was reaffirmed, backed by significant investment aimed at optimizing and modernizing the infrastructure of the country's port network. It should be noted that the planned investment for 2027 is over 1.5 billion euros across the entire port system, rising to over 7 billion euros by 2030.

At the meeting of presidents and directors of Puertos del Estado and the port system, progress on key issues such as the review of the Emissions Directive being carried out by the European Union, and the contributions from the EU-ETS Observatory launched by the organization, which warn of undesirable effects on port competitiveness; port protection plans; and the international projection of Spanish ports, especially the creation of an Ibero-American Ports Forum, were also discussed.
