The railway connection of the Port of Ferrol has attracted the interest of India's national railway company. High-ranking officials from Western Railway India conducted a technical visit to the construction site to learn firsthand about the system used in the execution of the track superstructure.
The tour began at the entrance of the inner port and proceeded along the viaduct over the A Malata inlet to the mouth of the A Graña tunnel. During the visit, technicians from Pandrol, the company that owns the QTrack system applied in the work, explained its characteristics and the advantages it offers both in terms of construction and infrastructure maintenance. This is a ballastless embedded track system that provides full support to the rail without the need for conventional sleepers, allowing for vibration control and extending the track's useful life. Pandrol, a leading international company in railway engineering, chose the work being carried out at the Port of Ferrol as one of the most prominent projects where this technique is being applied.
The works on the connection that will link the inner and outer ports are in their final stages and are expected to be completed by early next year. The installation of the track superstructure on the viaduct over A Malata is now practically finished, and progress is being made in the tunnel with non-railway installations. The renovation work on the track running alongside the warehouses along the main street of the port's internal network is also nearing completion, and the waiting track and the renovation of the access branch tracks to the port within the Port Authority's jurisdiction are already finished.
